Quality control of large components – precision and reliability
Quality control is one of the most important steps in the manufacturing process. It is the one that allows you to detect possible manufacturing errors that could result in incompatibility, the need for costly returns and, in extreme cases, even damage to the new product.
With standard-sized components, verification is relatively simple. However, the problem arises when dealing with large-size structures that require a specialized measurement approach.
Measurements in practice – our latest project
In carrying out the task described above, we measured an element in the form of a large cylinder less than 10 meters long and about 1.5 meters in diameter, ending in pivots on both sides.
Main measurement objectives:

Check the concentricity of the pivots – crucial for the correct operation of the entire assembly after assembly.

Shape inspection – both of the pipe and the mandrels to ensure that there are no deformations that could affect the functioning of the structure.
We used
Laser Tracker
– a portable measuring device that allows for very high accuracy even with such large dimensions.
Results and effect for the customer
We presented the results in the form of a clear report enriched with a CAD model, which made it easier to interpret the results and locate any deviations.
The inspection made it possible:

Confirmation that the item was made in accordance with the technical documentation,

Ensuring trouble-free installation at the target site,

Elimination of the risk of failure resulting from inaccurate workmanship.
Why is it so important?
In the case of large components , every millimeter matters – small deviations can generate huge costs in later use. The use of modern measurement techniques is a guarantee that the product will meet all technical requirements and will work as intended from the first day of operation.
