Measurement Arm

Coordinate measuring arms (Portable CMMs) are portable, high-accuracy devices used for measurements in production and reverse engineering. The 3D arms enable quality control by recording the position of the probe and feeding the results to software (e.g. Metrolog or Polyworks). They are lightweight and perfect for measuring small and large parts in a manufacturing environment.

Measuring arms are widely used in many industries to facilitate work and support workers. They stand out for their versatility, accuracy and versatility, playing an important role in today’s industry. What are the main applications of these tools?

Measuring arms are portable devices, enabling the measurement of elements of various sizes, from smaller (e.g. 0.1 m – 0.5 m) to sizable (up to 4.0 m). They are used where measurement precision is crucial, with dimensional tolerances of 0.10 mm per meter (e.g., 1000.00 mm ± 0.05 mm). The most accurate arms maintain an accuracy of 0.01 mm – 0.03 mm throughout the range. They record surface shape and geometric elements and enable dimensional analysis directly on the production line.

The measuring arms are useful for quality control and precise machine alignment within a range of up to 3-4 meters. In the automotive, aerospace, prototyping, foundry or welded structures industries, they play a key role. They are also used to control deliveries, comparing the data obtained with the 3D model.

The arms are made of carbon fiber and consist of three elements connected by pivot joints. Encoders precisely convert rotary motion into an electrical signal. The contact probes record readings, and due to their exceptional precision, they achieve high accuracy in relation to the measurement range.
