Measuring jaw crusher – precision for heavy industry
In heavy industrial machinery, every component matters. The forces acting on the components of such machines are significant, and even small misalignments or wear can lead to serious problems over time, resulting in costly breakdowns and downtime. Regular inspection of equipment geometry is an effective way to prevent them.
One of our recent projects was a geometric analysis of a jaw crusher used for primary crushing of ore in a mine.

The challenge: accuracy vs. limited time?
The time allotted for the overhaul shutdown was very short, so it was imperative that the measurements be taken quickly yet extremely accurately. To achieve this goal, we used three different measurement technologies that complemented each other:
-
Laser Tracker – made it possible to accurately measure components at a distance from each other.
-
Measuring arm – allowed to collect data from hard-to-reach places, inaccessible to the laser beam.
-
The 3D laser scanner – LIDAR – recorded the full geometry of the jaw surfaces in a short time.
Data, analysis, results.
Once the data was collected, all the results were analyzed in detail in the office and then presented to the client in the form of a clear report.
The report included:
-
results of geometric measurements,
-
Visualizations of identified irregularities,
-
Recommendations for further corrective actions.
The result: preventing failure instead of fixing it
The information provided allowed the customer to quickly assess the machine’s condition and make a decision to make repairs even before downtime or damage occurred.
Regular geometry measurements are an investment in trouble-free machine operation.
With a combination of Laser Tracker technology, a measuring arm and a 3D scanner, we can precisely diagnose the condition of even the most demanding machines – quickly, accurately and without unnecessary downtime.
