Digitization and acquisition of real dimensions
In the world of engineering and design, we very often have to deal with elements with irregular or unusual shapes whose exact dimensions are difficult to determine by traditional methods. This is quite a challenge for designers, who have to map the actual object in the form of a digital CAD model.
Where does the problem arise?
Classic measuring instruments are great for simple shapes, but for more complex geometries they can be insufficient. As a result, the designer doesn’t always get data with sufficient accuracy – and this in turn prolongs the design process and increases the risk of errors.
What solution do we use?
In such situations, precise 3D measurements come to the rescue. In the described project, we combined two technologies:
-
3D scanning to quickly acquire a full point cloud,
-
Contact arm measurement, giving the highest accuracy in sensitive areas.

This made it possible:
-
Pointing out deficiencies in the existing CAD model,
-
Determining the position of elements that are difficult or impossible to measure by traditional methods,
-
Providing reliable geometric data that streamlined the design process.
Benefits for engineers
The cooperation of the designers with our team made it possible to significantly reduce the design time and increase its precision. With access to the data provided, the client was able to:
-
easier to verify the correctness of the project,
-
Reduce the risk of errors at the production stage,
-
Conveniently use 3d data throughout the product lifecycle.
Our goal is to provide measurement data in such a way that it is maximally useful and practical for the customer. Digitization of components is not just a tool – it is a real support in the daily work of designers and constructors.
