Relocation of welding swivel for rail vehicle frames

Changing the location of production is always a major challenge – especially when machines of considerable size and requiring high precision alignment are involved. In such situations, proper preparation of the relocation process and professional measurement support are crucial.

We recently had the opportunity to carry out a project involving the relocation of a large-scale welding swivel to a new hall for the production of rail vehicle spurs (frames).

Stage 1: Input measurements at the original site

In order to preserve the full functionality and geometry of the machine after the move, it was necessary to accurately document its alignment and geometric relationships at the existing work site.
The input measurements were the foundation of the entire process – thanks to them, it was possible to later reconstruct the machine’s position at the new location.

Stage 2: Disassembly and transportation

Due to the size of the turntable, its transportation required separating it into several sections and transporting them separately over a distance of about 200 kilometers. This process required close cooperation with the company responsible for the logistics of disassembly and assembly.

Step 3: Reassembly and adjustments to settings

Once all the elements were delivered to the destination, we proceeded with the actual measurement work.
Using modern 3D measurement equipment and the possibility of real-time corrections, we reconstructed:

  • nominal setting of the instrument,

  • primary geometric relationships,

  • positions of key structural points.

As a result, the rotor was brought to the identical geometry parameters it had before the relocation.
